The club organises a Handicap Trophy based on runner's performance in all of the League road and cross country races. All members of the club that count for Striders in the League races will automatically be included in the series.
The way it works - Every runner is given an average time per mile based on their previous race history (reset each year). Counting starts immediately after the club prize giving in December - this is then adjusted through the year as their performance develops. Numbers are reset each year based on the previous year and we have separate numbers for both XC and Road. This number represents "the best average YOU". It might become a tougher target if you improve, but it won't get easier if you are off-form. Get training if you want to beat it! At no point will your handicap time be any faster than your best run in the previous year - and it might be slower.
For each counting race we compare your actual performance to your handicap - the person with the biggest improvement (or smallest deficit) gets the most points - we total the best 8 results over the year.
The idea is that it’s a level playing field for everybody and we all have a chance.
