Tribute to Paddy Crowe

It is with great sadness that we announce that one of our longest-serving members, former Chair and Club Secretary Paddy Crowe, passed away on Saturday 28 November 2024.

Paddy joined Desford Striders in 1994, after being recruited to the club by our founder, the late Steve Morris.

Paddy was extremely well known to all Striders and to the wider running community across Leicestershire and encouraged many new members into running, including his daughter Emily Newton, and his grandchildren George and Caitlyn.

Since stopping running, he was seen at the start and finish of various events across Leicestershire, either timing, carrying out TTRO duties, officiating, but always encouraging everyone.

These events included County Championships, Livingston Relays, Derby Runner cross country league, Leicestershire Road Running League races and schools cross-countrys. Whatever the weather Paddy gave up his time and always loved to be involved and to help others.

Paddy was a great friend and a very important part of Desford Striders, as well as being a regular volunteer at our base at Sport in Desford.

He was also a much-loved father, grandfather and friend to so many. His contribution to local athletics will be remembered for a long time to come.

Thank you Paddy, you're much loved and will be much missed.
